Paolo Piva
Architect and designer, Head of Institute of Design,
University of Applied Arts Vienna (I/A)
Paolo Piva (*1950) studied architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia with Carlo Scarpa and Carlo Aymonimo. After finishing his studies with his thesis about Vienna 1919-34, he started working as industrial designer and as architect. As a designer Paolo Piva works for companies like B&B, De Sede, Varenna Poliform and Wittmann. Many of his elegant designs are by now considered to be design classics. His architectural opus includes private houses all over the world, factory buildings (like for B&B Italia and Poliform), shops (like the restoration and extension of the famous gentlemen’s tailor Knize in Vienna) and public buildings (like the Parco Scientifico e Technologico di Venezia, elementary and polytechnic School in Vienna). Since 1988 Paolo Piva has been professor for industrial design and now is chairman of the Institute of Design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna
