Torsten Bröhan |
|
Bröhan Design Foundation, Berlin (D) |
Torsten Bröhan studied art history and business administration at the Freie Universität Berlin. After holding a leading managerial position in an international company Bröhan became self-employed in 1983. His first gallery (visual and applied art of the 20th century) was in Düsseldorf, he then gave it up to concentrate on the mediation of art and design collections (for example to Tokyo, Utsunomiya). Sotheby's auctioned the design objects from his gallery in a successful single-owner sale. Torsten Bröhan had an office in New York from1988 onwards, between 1999 and 2002 he devoted himself to establishing an Internet company there as well as setting up a virtual educational design portal.
Since 2002 Bröhan has lived and worked in Berlin once again. He closed his gallery in Berlin-Mitte in 2005 and set up the Bröhan Design Foundation (BDF) with the aim of researching and disseminating design history. His collection of international design avant-garde, as well as his archive and library on the themes of architecture and design history are among the most important in the world.
